Services
I offer a wide range of evaluation, treatment, and family services to meet the diverse needs of my clients.
Consultation
My initial consultations serve as a crucial starting point in understanding the unique needs of each client. During our initial consultation, I work with parents and families to gain insight into their concerns, learn about the child’s strengths and challenges, and begin to develop goals around the child’s speech, reading, and/or social communication and self-regulation skills. By establishing a strong partnership with parents, we work together to identify specific areas of focus and develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to the child's individual needs.
Initial Evaluations (Social)
During this session, I build rapport with new clients, learn about their interests, likes/dislikes, and perform informal and (if necessary) formal assessment measures to learn more about their social and communicative strengths and challenges. Assessment is a fluid and ongoing process, but starting from our initial session, I begin to more closely examine an individual’s social and situational attention skills, along with their perspective taking skills, to examine how each of my clients does with attending to, interpreting, problem solving and responding to the social world around them. I also prioritize gaining insight into my clients' social self-awareness and self-evaluation skills. As we embark on our therapeutic journey together, we work collaboratively to set goals and learn effective strategies.
Initial Evaluations (Language & Reading)
Following initial consultations with families, I provide thorough and comprehensive assessments of a child's speech, language, and literacy skills. Through standardized testing measures and informal assessments, I perform objective and accurate evaluations that serve as the foundation for tailored, individualized treatment plans. Evaluations allow me to fully examine areas related to auditory processing and attention, language comprehension and expression, articulation, fluency and reading/writing abilities. With this information in hand, I collaboratively work with parents to develop individualized treatment plans that prioritize their child's specific needs and goals. Drawing from my expertise and knowledge of evidence-based practices, I design interventions that are engaging, effective, and focused on promoting optimal communication and academic development.
Weekly Individual Sessions (Social)
By employing evidence-based techniques and frameworks, I help my clients gain a deeper understanding of who they are as learners, as well as how to navigate within social world around them. My approach is tailored to meeting the unique needs and goals of each client I work with, ensuring that our sessions are engaging, supportive, and focused on tangible progress. Ultimately, my aim is to equip clients with the necessary skills to thrive socially and to meet their own social goals, enhancing their overall well-being and quality of life. We also work on self-regulation skills and executive functioning skills, as needed. Together, we explore strategies and techniques that promote self-reflection, self-monitoring, and self-evaluation. By developing these essential skills, clients become active participants in their own growth and progress.
Weekly Individual Sessions (Reading)
With a strong background in language-based learning disabilities and extensive experience working with children with dyslexia, I offer individualized sessions to work on students’ reading comprehension, fluency, and decoding (word reading) skills. As the daughter of a writer, I love helping students unlock the power of literacy. Through individualized sessions, I create a nurturing and supportive learning environment where students feel encouraged to take academic risks and explore various aspects of texts. I tailor my instruction to meet the individual needs and learning styles of each student, ensuring that they receive robust, multi-sensory reading intervention and targeted support.
Weekly Individual Sessions (Speech & Language)
In weekly speech-language therapy sessions, I provide compassionate and individualized support to children, helping them to unlock their communication potential. I work with children who have expressive communication challenges, helping them to develop the ability to effectively express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Through interactive activities and targeted interventions, we work together to expand vocabulary, improve use of complex sentence structure, and enhance overall language fluency. Receptive language skills may also be a core focus of our sessions. For students with receptive language needs, I employ a variety of engaging techniques and strategies to help them understand and comprehend verbal and written information. By strengthening children’s ability to process and interpret language, we enhance their comprehension, critical thinking skills, and overall communication effectiveness.
Parent Training
One of my ultimate goals as a speech therapist is to empower parents and families with knowledge, tools, and resources that enable them to actively participate in their child's progress. Through collaborative efforts and ongoing support, we strive to unlock each client’s full potential. Parent training usually takes place for 10-15 minutes after every treatment session. However, additional and freestanding parent training sessions are available on an as-needed basis.
IEP & Advocacy Support
As a speech therapist with extensive IEP case management experience, I understand firsthand that navigating the special education process can be overwhelming for parents. That's why I offer comprehensive support that goes beyond therapy sessions. If desired, I am available to accompany parents to IEP meetings, serving as a knowledgeable advocate for their child's needs. With a deep understanding of the laws and legalities surrounding IEPs and special education, I provide valuable insights and guidance to ensure parents are well-informed and empowered.
Weekly Social Group Sessions
Based on availability, clients who have engaged in prior individualized sessions targeting social communication skills may be candidates for group therapy sessions. Group sessions are purposefully designed to bring together clients with similar social communication needs, fostering an environment where they can learn and grow together.
